I don't necessarily need combat, like in your Clocktower example, those games had puzzles to solve and 10ish endings to pursue over a pretty limited time. My issue is when a game is like SOMA and more of a movie where your input consists of just walking around. I have no issue with the horror of the game, I love horror as a genre in all forms. I hope my points are not being misconstrued. But also having those panic inducing moments as well, and you can't fight back - liek Clock Tower. It's not a panic inducing fear, such as trying to reload while the Nemeisis tries to munch on your hindquarters, but more of a psychological one that sits in your brain and just chips away. But i think the way it s handled here is nice. Originally posted by TemmieNeko:it's a tough crowd to please. I have films and books if I just want a story. I guess what I am trying to say is I just want more than a walking sim, and if this is more than that then great I will check it out, but games like SOMA do nothing for me. Modern horror games tend to be just too devoid of it. I don't want a run and gun game, I just want some semblance of gameplay. I just don't see the fun in an entire game based around just walking around looking at stuff, with the occasional run away from a thing. Now granted if you are good enough at the games you can kill everything but a lot of people don't get to that point. Those games were not about just getting all the guns and shooting everything. You are forgetting about the middle ground of Resident Evils 1-3. You either get tonms of guns and loses the survival aspect, or you use wonky melee attacks ala Amnesia dark descent.
